'Kyle XY' has such a devoted fan base, and they're really into the details and the behind-the-scenes stuff. What was it like dealing with a huge hit show and the fame that comes along with it?
It was a little overwhelming at first, and it was kind of crazy but, you know, I get it. Like, I'll be at a party and someone from 'Lost' will be there, and I'll get all excited and be like 'I want to meet that person.' So I can definitely relate to it. But it is funny sometimes, like you'll meet fans and they'll notice little things like which hand you open the door with. And it's cool to see the theories they come up with [about the show.]
Have you really approached your favorite actors from 'Lost' or 'Heroes' at a party?
I did. I met Josh Holloway, Hurley [Jorge Garcia] and Daniel Dae Kim. I made my publicist introduce me to them because I wanted to meet them. And from 'Heroes,' actually I have a friend who's on the show: Zachary Quinto, who plays Sylar. We've been friends since before either of us were on TV shows.
He's my favorite actor on 'Heroes.'
He's awesome, and he's great on the show. I'm always trying to coax him into DVDs of the show for me to watch. I kind of fell behind (because of work), so I need to catch up with what happened at the end of the season.
Were you trying to get spoilers out of him all season?
No! I never want to know. Even now, if anyone is talking about 'Lost' and 'Heroes,' I'll walk away. I love to watch without knowing what's going to happen. I do that on our show, too. When a writer is talking about stuff in the future, I say 'Don't tell me.'
Okay, I have to ask a silly question. What was the pink goo that covered Kyle when we first met him? It looked very uncomfortable.
Haha! It's actually made out of the base they use to make a McDonald's milkshake, Pepto Bismol and fake blood. And it's completely edible.
Did you actually taste it?
Well yeah, and it just tasted like Pepto Bismol. The stuff is designed to hold the cold in the McDonald's milkshakes, which made it very cold to wear, too. It was fine for about 10 minutes, but then you realize that you're naked in front of a whole crew of people..
And you're wearing pink goo.
And you're wearing pink goo.
When did you decide to become an actor?
When I was 12. My grandma took me to audition for a community theater play. I got a part, and I just knew from that day on that's what I was going to do with my life.
What was the play?
(Laughing) 'The Ugly Duckling.'
And you were ...
I played a gander. There were a lot feathers involved, I remember that.
You have all these memorable guest appearances, on Kathy Griffin's reality show, on 'Entourage' and in the James Blunt video. Aside from 'Kyle XY,' which role do fans bring up most often?
Oh, 'Entourage,' by far. It's so funny, too, because it was such a small part, and just one episode, but people come up to me all the time and are like 'You were so great on 'Entourage,' and say my character's lines to me. And it's such a great show. You know, now that I'm thinking about it ... in that episode, I'm wearing this Speedo. It seems to be a little trend that I'm getting cast and then not wearing clothes.
But at least there was no pink goo.
At least there was no pink goo. I was just in a swimming pool.
