Aug. 28 -- Location, location, location.
Bridget Moynahan has starred in 'I, Robot' and 'The Recruit' alongside big-name co-stars like Al Pacino and Will Smith.
But when it came to her next project, the ABC drama 'Six Degrees,' it was all about location. Sure, 'Lost' mastermind J.J. Abrams is the executive producer, and the cast includes fellow film actors Campbell Scott, Hope Davis and Erika Christensen. But perhaps the biggest draw was the fact that the series is shot in New York City -- not too far from boyfriend Tom Brady, the New England Patriots quarterback.
The actress talked with AOL Television editor Kelly Woo about going from movies to TV, her co-stars and her "Big" break on 'Sex and the City.'
It seems like the big trends this fall is dramas with big ensemble casts. Why do you think that's the case?
With these ensemble casts, you're getting invested in these character's lives. Week after week, you get interested in what's going to happen or what you're going to find out about this person. I think that's what's bringing people back. I think that's what was so unique about 'Lost' -- that every week you learned more about one character or you were introduced to another character.
You've worked in some really high-profile movies, with high-profile actors. Was there something that attracted you to a TV series at this point in your life?
It was the project. Last year I was sort of considering it, but shooting in New York is sort of a stipulation for me when it comes to a long-term project like this. There were a few [projects] last year that were kind of interesting, but nothing as unique as this, and I was glad I held out for it. It was really just the fact that all the elements seemed to be so good, I couldn't find a reason not to do it.
At the Television Critics' press tour, the critics seemed really interested whether the cast believes in fate or chance. So what's your take -- fate or chance?
I think that there is a little bit of both. I think that there are opportunities that are presented to each one of us. It's just whether or not we're open to that at that time. Whether it is people you meet or situations that come to you, maybe that's fate. It's whether or not you want to take the chance to explore them.
In the pilot, you work a lot with indie film queen, Hope Davis. What was that like?
She's a phenomenal actress and one of those actors that the rest of us admire. I feel really fortunate to be working with her. She's talented and when I'm working with her, I watch her -- she makes it seem so easy and effortless. So far, everyone in the cast is meshing together really well.
You have three movies coming out. Are you still going to do movies on the side?
Obviously, there is tons of stuff being shot in New York right now. So if there is a project that allows me to jump in and out of it, if it's just a couple weeks work. I would love to do that. But right now, we're still learning the whole life of the TV show, so I'm not too anxious to jump into something right now, but once we get the groove on maybe, if there's something interesting.
You've guest-starred on TV before -- you played Big's wife on 'Sex and the City.'
Do you still get remembered as Natasha?
Oh yeah, all the time.
What was it like doing that show?
It was one of those things that was really only supposed to be two or three episodes. It turned into a whole character that none of us really expected to [last] through the whole season. I'm very fortunate that I got that audition and walked through that door when I did. It opened a lot of doors for me. I certainly didn't know it at the time that it had this life force that was unstoppable. I'm so fortunate to have gotten that. With that and 'Coyote Ugly' at the same time, it sort of got me through some doors that I may have not had the chance to go through.
So pre-season football is starting soon, are you excited for your boyfriend, Tom Brady?
Yeah, I'm very excited to get some football on TV and go to some games, for sure.
Are you a sports lover in general? Do you follow other sports?
No, I'm not following any other sport; it takes a little too much out of me to follow one sport so passionately. I've gone to the baseball games, and I went to a lot of the NBA playoffs -- that was fun.
Are you a very passionate sideline fan? The kind who yells at the refs?
(Laughs) No, I'm not like that.
What are some of your favorite TV shows?
'Lost.' '24.' I think I'm going to become a fan of 'Weeds.' I just downloaded the whole first season so we'll see if I like it. To be honest, the one thing I always have on is CNN or '60 Minutes.' I tend to only watch news programs or Discovery Channel, stuff like that. I will say I happen to be really into the one with Heidi Klum on Bravo, 'Project Runway' and 'Top Chef.' Those are pretty good guilty pleasures.
