The Simpsons Cast & Crew

Description

Based on a series of small cartoon sketches from FOX's sketch-comedy hit "The Tracy Ullman Show," this animated comedy focuses on the Simpson family in Springfield. The head of the Simpson family, Homer, is not the typical "family man." The nuclear plant foreman does his best to lead his irreverant family, but often finds that they are the ones who lead him. Nevertheless, the Simpson family stays together -- no matter what the dilemma is. That family includes loving, blue-haired matriarch Marge, troublemaking son Bart, overachieving daughter Lisa and baby Maggie. The family never ages, but the town of Springfield continues to change with the times. Citizens of Springfield are most often voiced by cast members Hank Azaria (among them Moe the barkeep) and Harry Shearer (Homer's boss Mr. Burns, neighbor Ned Flanders). Notable guest voice stars have included Michael Jackson (as a mental patient who thought he was -- naturally -- Michael Jackson), Bob Hope, Dustin Hoffman, William H. Macy, Kathleen Turner, Johnny Carson, NSync, Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones. Each episode takes six to eight months to produce, and celebrity guest stars are a common occurence. The series has been critically praised and bestowed with numerous honors, including a Peabody Award, 21 Emmy Awards, 21 Annie Awards, three Genesis Awards, eight International Monitor Awards and five Environmental Media Awards. The series currently holds the Guinness Book of World Records titles for "Longest-running Primetime Animated Series" and "Most Celebrities Featured in an Animation Series." Recognized as a pop culture icon, Homer Simpsons's annoyed grunt, "D'oh!" was added as an official word in the 2001 edition of the Oxford Dictionary.
