His show is famous for such segments as the "Top 10 List." David Letterman left NBC when Johnny Carson retired and "The Tonight Show" was given to Jay Leno. Letterman accepted a $42 million dollar offer from CBS to appear on "Late Show With David Letterman" opposite Leno.
