History: Suprisingly, "Star Trek" was not considered a commercial hit when it originally aired. Cancelled due to diminishing audiences, the show gained cult popularity following reruns in the 70s. Fans called "Trekkies" held conventions and lobbied to bring the crew of the Enterprise back to TV. Instead, several "Star Trek" movies were made, as well as a flock of other "Star Trek"-inspired series including "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." The series' latest TV incarnation, "Star Trek: Enterprise," was recently saved from cancellation itself.
