A dozen aspiring fashion designers compete to have their work featured in a runway show during New York's Fashion Week. Each week, the contestants take part in design competitions that might include making an awards show-worthy gown or updating a classic style. One designer is eliminated in each episode, until the three finalists each mount full runway shows during Fashion Week in New York. Pennsvylvania-based designer Jay McCarroll prevailed over his competition, scoring $100,000 and a spread in Elle magazine. He declined a mentorship with Banana Republic in a bid to ensure his creative freedom. Kara Saun was first runner up, Wendy Pepper second runner up.
