One Life to Live When It's On
Overview: ABC was interested in another show for their daytime lineup, so they approached Agnes Nixon, who had the reputation of knowing just how to fix what was broken in regards to soap operas. Nixon had already shelved her idea for "All My Children" when Proctor & Gamble passed on it, so when ABC contacted her, "One Life to Live" was her new creation. Nixon's vision for the show was one that made it a popular soap among younger viewers - a realistic soap opera that dealt with social issues and the characters representing various social classes and religions. In fact, "OLTL" was the first soap to give black characters major storylines. "One Life to Live" alums include Jeff Fahey, Nathan Fillion, Pam Grier, Judith Light, Mario Van Peebles and Yasmine Bleeth.
