Set in Chicago, this hour-long medical drama deals with the personal and professional crises of the doctors in the emergency room at County General Hospital. From the exciting to the mundane, a day in the frantic hospital serves up many interesting dilemmas as well as heart-rending choices for everyone on staff. Best-selling author Michael Crichton ("Jurassic Park," "Disclosure") created the Emmy Award winning series. Besides being a writer, Crichton is a medical school graduate. "ER" is also one of the only series in recent memory to air a "live" episode (for the East Coast, at least) and an episode helmed by Oscar winner Quentin Tarantino. "ER" debuted opposite CBS' medical drama "Chicago Hope"; its consecutive wins in the Nielsen ratings forced CBS to reschedule. Now, many years later, "ER" is still going strong -- and "Chicago Hope" has been cancelled since 2000.
