Degrassi Junior High Cast & Crew

"Degrassi Junior High" follows the exploits of Canadian youngsters in the late 1980s. The first soap opera for kids, "Degrassi Junior High" doesn't sugarcoat the problems facing Canadian (or American) youth. It focuses on such formerly taboo topics as alcoholism, interracial relationships, HIV/AIDS, drug abuse and homosexuality. Most of the action takes place outside the classroom, as the students interact in school hallways or lunchrooms, or after school. The series was created and executive-produced by Kit Hood and Linda Schuyler.<#$>Some of the characters -- albeit known by different names -- were introduced on the drama "The Kids of Degrassi Street."<#$>The franchise was resurrected in 2001 when CBC premiered "Degrassi: The Next Generation," which looks at an all-new group of students and continues to put them through thought-provoking, millenium-age trials and tribulations.
