On Set With 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' on FX

All Smiles

The FX slacker comedy 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia,' about four friends who own a dive bar in Philadelphia, is getting some new blood this season. Danny DeVito joins the cast as the quirky father of Dennis (Glenn Howerton) and Dee (Kaitlin Olson). The crew made a pit stop in New York's Times Square to promote the show and share the news.

The show took to the streets of "The City of Brotherly Love" to shoot some scenes for its second season. Shooting on location is often cheaper than building a set on a Hollywood soundstage, and it usually looks more authentic, too.

Beauty Break

Kaitlin Olson strikes a pose while a stylist tends to her tresses. Before her 'Sunny' debut, Olson was pulling fast ones on A-list stars as an improv actor on MTV's 'Punk'd.'

Keeping it Real

Olson prepares for a scene in which the gang is sitting on a stoop, listening to a boombox and drinking beer hidden in paper bags. That's true city living for ya!

Be Your Own Boss

The 'Sunny' cast created the concept, and they write and produce the show. Rob McElhenney (standing) along with friends and fellow actors Glenn Howerton and Charlie Day shot a pilot for about $85 and later sold the series to FX.

Tricky Shot

Getting a shot of someone driving can be tough to pull off. The poor lighting, lack of space and vibrations of the moving car require a patient actor and a skilled director. But Olson looks like she's up for the task.

Dead Weight

Charlie Day does some heavy lifting in a comical scene for the show's second season.

It's a Wrap

Once the hard work is done, the cast takes some time to party. Even master magician David Blaine got in on the fun.
