'The Wire'

Why It's Deserving: The only thing the Hollywood Foreign Press loves more than star power is a hit. Sadly, 'The Wire' is neither. It is, however, the best show on television. Witness the rave reviews. This season's storyline following four teen boys has been heartbreaking, eye-opening and utterly captivating.

    'Battlestar Galactica'

Why It's Deserving: At first, we thought the same thing: A sci-fi drama about killer robots in space? But TV's second-best show throws all labels out the airlock. Its season finale blew minds by jumping ahead an entire year. But that's classic 'BSG' for you -- never afraid to take risks to tell a frakkin' good story.

        'Deadwood'

Why It's Deserving: 'Deadwood' is dead, and it ought to have been recognized for its final, brilliant moments. The arrival of ruthless mogul George Hearst caused perpetually angry sheriff Seth Bullock to team up with calculating saloon owner Al Swearengen. It was a match made in TV heaven.

            'House'

Why It's Deserving: Yeah, it's called 'House' for a reason, and Hugh Laurie did get a Best Actor nomination. But the rest of the cast and crew also deserve some props. After all, only really good shows get shamelessly copied ('Shark,' '3 lbs').

                'Two and a Half Men'

Why It's Deserving: Oh man, creator Chuck Lorre is not gonna be happy. He's already gone on the record that 'Men' hasn't gotten enough awards love, and here's yet another injustice to stew over. Sure, it's no 'Office' (British or American), but the workhorse sitcoms gets a lot of laughs week after week, year after year.

                    Matthew Fox

Why He's Deserving: Some say 'Lost' has gone downhill, but it's still one of the most gripping hours on television. And Fox's Jack is the heart of the show, always protecting his band of survivors. Rumors say the actor, who's starring in 'We Are Marshall,' will be written off. A Fox-less 'Lost'? Can't even imagine it.

                        Kristen Bell

Why She's Deserving: So few shows star a true female lead, but Bell really carries 'Veronica Mars.'Her sassy, yet vulnerable detective has become the new Buffy; she can solve cases with ease, but affairs of the heart can trip her up. And Bell's got the snark thing down perfect.

                            Eva Longoria

Why She's Deserving: We still don't get why 'Desperate Housewives Housewives' competes as a comedy. But the Globes should at least honor the actress with the funniest storyline, which was Gabrielle's 'War of the Roses' battle with ex Carlos.

                                William Shatner

Why He's Deserving: Shatner and James Spader cleaned up at the Globes two years ago. But 'Boston Legal' was totally shut out this year. David E. Kelley's shtick may be wearing thin, but that doesn't mean they have to punish the always-memorable Shatner.

                                    Neil Patrick Harris

Why He's Deserving: You know a sitcom is great when one of its catchphrases permeates popular culture. That's just what's happened on 'How I Met Your Mother.' Barney's "Suit up!" (no. 91 on TV Land's list). And it's all thanks to NPH.

                                        Mary Lynn Rajskub

Why She's Deserving: There's a reason Chloe's hasn't been killed off '24' in five seasons. Rajskub is genius as the persnickety, brilliant and loyal techie. Her anguish over friend Edgar's death just killed us.

                                            Chloe Sevigny

Why She's Deserving: It's not easy to stand out in a crowd, yet prim, jealous and strictly religious Nicki shone among Bill Henrickson's three wives on 'Big Love.' She could've been completely unlikeable, yet Sevigny infused her with a sympathetic vulnerability and need for love.

                                                'Tsunami, the Aftermath'

Why It's Deserving: At least stars Toni Collette, Chiwetel Ojiofor and Sophie Okonedo got recognition. But the harrowing 'Tsunami' seems to have been overlooked in favor of 'Prime Suspect: The Final Act' and Helen Mirren's grand awards-gobbling tour this year.
