I still hold out hope that humans are ultimately something special and precious, and that they can decide to work together for the greater good of humanity without some horrible event to trigger that action.... hopefully history will not see me as too naiive.

whats really a shame though is ******** probably going to have to take a catastrophic event on a global scale where people will be forced to work together and get along in order to survive before things to change to the way they should be and need to be

its a shame to cause a lot of people are brainwashed and think its ok thats ok for a society to function that way and nothing should be changed to find a better solution

And Steve... we also live in a society where for some reason that shelf-stocker is less of a human being than the football player or the pop star. I always thought my father had some of the best words of wisom. He would tell my brother and I growing up "...you can decide to be a Janitor when you grow up if that is right for you. Just be the best Janitor that you know"

Right again! I once took a class where the teacher started out with this... Write down the jobs that you think are most important to a healthy society. We all wrote down things like "Garbage collector, Police, Firemen, custodians". Now write down some jobs that a socitey does not necessarily need to function...We wrote "Musician, basketball player, some wrote- lawyers, politicians..." Now lets go down each list and write the median income for each. Moral of the story was simply that we PAY the least for what is MOST valuable in society.

I think people here are just afraid. They want to take care of thier fellow man, but they are afraid if they do, nothing will be left for them. Health insurance industry shows that they will take your money for a profit, but can turn you down when you most need it, Financial institutions have no problem selling junk loans to poor people- as long as they can turn it for a profit, who cares if someone looses thier home? Because of these situations, and others before, we are all scared. We know that there is no security in America unless you can ammass the most wealth. If you are extremely wealthy, then you can always aford the best doctor, you can take off work for a mental break or to care for an ill parent or child, you have a choice of the best schools for your child, regardless of intellect or potential. It encourages greed- "If I don't get mine at all costs, I will have no way to care for myself in my old age, nothing to leave my progeny, I will be a burden" -fear.

yea well the thing is they go and tell everyone that anyone can go out and own their own business and be a pro sports player and grow up to be president but the truth of it is if that were really true who would stock the shelves at the stores who would drive the trucks carrying all the merchandise to the stores and other simple jobs like that because without that the country couldnt function and so if we cant all be rich and live that kind of life than the goverment is full of **** and thats what this country is based on and held together by is ********
