March 21 -- Tick tock, tick tock. This season of '24' has proven the clock can run out on anybody at anytime, including beloved figures like President Palmer, agent Tony Almeida, and recently, techie Edgar Stiles. Could the next victim be Jack Bauer's love, Audrey Raines.
If so, her portrayer, actress Kim Raver is ready. "It's a known factor in '24,'" she told AOL Television.
In an interview with editor Kelly Woo, Raver addressed her character's possible death, plus dished about upcoming storylines and working with Sen. John McCain.
Fans couldn't stop talking about Edgar's death. What was your reaction to it?
Heartbreaking. You get attached not only to the actors, but also to the characters. The relationship between Edgar and Chloe was so moving and touching and funny. Every character is such an integral part of '24,' so when someone leaves, it's so sad.
Where you shocked when you found out?
You get the scripts and you read it and you're just thinking, "That can't be!" I went to the producers and asked "Is this true?!" Sure enough, it was. I know for some of [the actors], if it's going to be for the greater good of the show, you're willing to go. That's not to say that you wouldn't miss it or be saddened by it. The people who've gone know that it's something that eventually would have to happen. Except probably with Kiefer Sutherland's character.
Now THAT really would be shocking.
Oh, forget it. I can't even imagine it. Nor could fans imagine it. I think the hard thing is you get attached to the actors you're working with. But it's a known factor in '24.' I've always felt like I have a double bullseye on me. Not only am I on '24,' but my character is invested with Jack's character. But it gives me a kind of freedom to do whatever I have to do that episode, knowing that at anytime I could go.
Do you dread that moment when you read the script where Audrey dies?
I just don't look at the scripts that way. I look at it like, "what's the journey for Audrey next?" [Coming up are] five episodes that just have been so unbelievably intense for my character. There's so much going on for her, I'm just so excited to be able to play that. I've also been able to do some stuff with Peter Weller, and he's just such a great actor.
What can you tell us about those upcoming episodes?
I will say that Audrey definitely gets into a very physically demanding place. May or may not get out of CTU, which is a little hint. And again, Jack and Audrey's relationship is completely challenged, physically as well as mentally -- another little hint. [Laughs] I feel like I'm on a treasure hunt. [They] have to make decisions and get over their personal relationships for the greater good of the country. I definitely feel like Audrey is very different from last year. Last year, she was very reactive, and this year is much more proactive. And she's not going to stand for things she thinks will hurt the country, for example, the relationship with Lynn. I think that comes from what happened to her last year and that will keep continuing throughout the season.
Are you proud to be the only of Jack's love interests to last more than a season?
Yeah, I am! Like, "OK, made it through another couple ones" -- which I'm so happy about, because I just enjoy working with Kiefer so much. I just respect him so much as an actor and as a person. And we get along so well. So, every time I survive, it's like woohoo!
Will Audrey ever get a gun and kick some ass, like Chloe did last year?
Well, she had a gun and she shot off a couple rounds last year, but it wasn't like the way Chloe got to do it Rambo style. There are definitely a couple crazy scenes coming up. I don't know if they'd ever let her be Jack Bauer-esque. I think it'd be fun, I don't think it would necessarily be REAL. Everybody secretly wants to be Jack Bauer. But that's what Kiefer does so well.
You've been cast in an ABC pilot about strangers brought together by a bank robbery. Does that portend anything for Audrey's future?
No, it doesn't! People have done two shows at once, so just put that out there. I'm not marrying myself to anything. I could be in two shows, one show. It doesn't mean anything that I'm doing this pilot, about Audrey's destiny.
What was it like working with Sen. John McCain when he did his cameo earlier this season?
He's an extraordinary man, incredibly intelligent. It was interesting having him on our set, being such a huge fan, especially with his stance on torture. It gave a weight and a reality to what we were doing.
What's the atmosphere like on set? Is it as intense as the show?
It's definitely intense. For me, I can't be in a huge emotional scene where I'm crying and then be doing pranks on the side. I need to be able to stay in it while I'm shooting it. But we definitely all go out and spend time together. We do enjoy each other's company, cast and crew, and that's really important. And Carlos is definitely the prankster of the group. Kiefer plays chess and he's teaching me darts.
You're on '24,' you were on 'Third Watch.' Heavy on the drama. Do you want to do comedies?
That's why I'm doing a comedy [movie] with Ben Stiller ('Night at the Museum'). It's a huge comedy. I loved it, working with Ben Stiller and Paul Rudd. Definitely keeping it light during the hiatus is a great, great combination.
