Madden Turns the Tables on Tabloid

(June 16) -- Joel Madden initially shocked his fans by writing a blog post titled "WE DID IT!! NICOLE AND I FINALLY GOT MARRIED!! click here for the pictures!!."

Sadly, once fans clicked in, they saw a picture of a wedding cake as well as two gorillas dressed like a bride and groom. It was then obvious the Good Charlotte singer was simply playing a prank thanks to a Star magazine report claiming that he and Nicole Richie were getting married this weekend.

In this week's PEOPLE, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden reveal Harlow Winter to the world for the first time since her birth on Jan. 11. Of Harlow, Richie says she "gives life a whole new meaning and a whole new purpose."

While it's the first photo of Harlow, it's not the first the couple are speaking of her. Shortly after her birth, the duo began sharing the details with all of their fans.

On his blog, Madden gave the inside scoop about his new baby girl, telling them that Harlow "looks so much like her mom its crazy!"

Claiming that the baby "hardly ever cries," Madden then continues to say that he "can't wait to show off some pictures," but doesn't say what medium he'll do that in.

It was during an interview with Diane Sawyer that aired in August that the pair finally admitted they were expecting their first child.

Madden rose to fame as lead singer of rock group Good Charlotte, which he started in 1996 with twin brother Benji, right. He also dated good-girl Hilary Duff, before hooking up with Richie.

Richie's claim to fame is her stint on 'The Simple Life,' co-starring Paris Hilton. The hotel heiress has said her on-again, off-again pal will be "the best mom ever," and that Richie and Madden are "really in love."

While pregnant, Richie served just 82 minutes on a four-day sentence for driving under the influence of drugs.

In the post, Madden's first words are: "HAHA. JUST KIDDING." He then goes on to say that he got numerous phone calls from family members inquiring about the wedding, so he decided to respond on his blog. "I've been getting calls and texts from my family all week asking me why they weren't invited to my wedding. I guess the only answer i could give them was that i didnt know we were having one," Madden writes.

He goes on to say that the rumors began with "some story about a 2 MILLION dollar wedding we are supposed to be having" in Star magazine. Obviously declaring the magazine is incorrect, Madden asks: "How long do you think it will be before they write we called it off, or we broke up? i give them a week or two?"

Madden and Richie, who recently became proud parents of baby Harlow, are currently engaged. No wedding date has been set for the couple.

Madden shot to rock stardom with his pop-punk band Good Charlotte. In an only-in-Hollywood type of twist, Madden's brother and bandmate, Benji, is currently dating Richie's 'Simple Life' co-star and pal Paris Hilton.

Good job, Joel! The tabloids aren't reliable news. They're just a business, trying to make money. By falsely saying a couple is getting married is not a way to make money, though! That prank just shows how many people actually believe that stuff!
