(Jan. 15) - 'American Idol' contestant Chris Daughtry doesn't like what he sees on the hit reality show anymore.

"It's in a state of decline and if they don't do something about it, it's probably not gonna last too much longer. I'm sure that'll be used against me, but that's the truth, you know?" the singer says, Rolling Stone reports.

How Well Do You Know Your 'Idol'?

In the audition round, what was one of the songs eventual season one winner Kelly Clarkson sang?

  • ‘At Last’
  • ‘Respect’
  • ‘A Natural Woman’

What place did Clarkson take during the World Idol competition?

  • First
  • Second
  • Third

How many finalists were there in the first season of ‘American Idol’?

  • 10
  • 11
  • 12

Who was the first top 10 finalist in the initial season to be kicked off?

  • Ryan Starr
  • A.J. Gil
  • EJay Day

Originally, there were two 'Idol' hosts, Ryan Seacrest and Brian Dunklemen. How many seasons did Dunklemen work on the show?

  • 1
  • 2
  • 3

Why was season two contestant Corey Clark disqualified from the competition?

  • A criminal background he failed to disclose
  • An alleged affair with judge Paula Abdul
  • A fight with another contestant

Who was the second singer to be crowned on 'American Idol'?

  • Clay Aiken
  • Ruben Studdard

Former UC Berkley student William Hung auditioned for the show. He never made it past the judges, but did go on to become a celebrity in his own right. What song did he sing for Simon, Paula and Randy?

  • True
  • False

Jennifer Hudson won an Oscar for her portrayal of Effie White in 'Dreamgirls.' Which other 'Idol' contestant auditioned for the role?

  • LaKisha Jones

Sanjaya Malakar defied the odds, despite his lack of talent, and made it to the top 7 during the sixth season. Which song did he sing the week he was eliminated?

  • 'Bathwater'
  • 'Steppin' Out With My Baby'
  • 'Something to Talk About'

Jordin Sparks defeated Blake Lewis to become the sixth 'Idol.' What was her debut album called?

  • 'Jordin Sparks'
  • 'Tatoo'
  • 'This Is My Now'
"I feel like it's definitely lacking some credibility at this point," Daughtry adds.

Daughtry came in fourth place on the fifth season of 'American Idol' but went on to be one of the top ten selling artists of 2007.

Despite his loss, Daughtry is considered the most successful from the fifth year of 'Idol,' selling 3.6 million copies of his debut album. Both Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee, the winner and runner-up that year, were both dropped from their record labels recently.

The rocker believes he knows what else is wrong with the show.

"People get tired of seeing people that suck. It's funny at first, but come on. They spend three weeks on people that can't sing, and that’s what they're banking it on. [They should] find some people that you can really invest in."

The show sucks and Simon better wake up and start taping people that are worth listening to. It is all a wast of time until the very last people are picked. We do not want to see the losers go through their agony. Sometimes it is pathetic that they actually put these people on the air. Come on enough is enough. It makes the show look so stupid.

Hey it's OK that Idol may be on the way out. Now we poke fun at fat people on Biggest Loser:)! Only in America we have enough fatties to make a TV show out of it. Maybe with the rising cost of food we wont have to deal with fatties much longer. One can only hope.

Chris Daughtry is absolutely correct. The show spends WAY too much time on people who CAN'T sing. It's funny-I have been a profesional vocalist-recordig artist-entertainer for many years and friends tell me that I should be on American Idol-but, I CAN'T because I'm too old. I look great and sound great-and my stage presence is fantastic-but, it's because I am TOO OLD.

Age discrimination really sucks. Talent competitions are supposed to be about TALENT-but, it's really all about MONEY. No joke.

The most exciting season was season 2 with Clay Aiken, the real winner of American Idol. I agree with Chris, (although I am far from a fan of his) that Idol should concentrate on real singers who have voices like Melinda Doolittle, Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce, no one with goat voices like the present Jordan Sparks, who never should have won. I'm all for people like Michael Buble, who remind us of Bobby Darin, and Sinatra. I am tired of Simon stating that if you have a great voice you should look to Broadway, and should not be considered for Idol.

I have to agree with Chris on this one. The show is about finding an American Idol. I have been to an Idol audtion before with someone who was an awesome talented singer, and witnessed many other very talented singers be told no to even getting a chance to perform for Randy, Paula and Simon. All this because they need to make room for people to laugh and make fun of. I would much rather see an entire show of people singing that know how to sing Maybe if real talent is not showing up anymore it is because they have experienced it before and figured why bother. The trend now is to show up and be as ridiculous and as obnoxious as possible and you stand a better chance at getting a 2nd audtion, than the true talent does.

Idol on the decline? Oh, Jesus, I hope so!

It is the biggest flash in the pan and I cannot wait for the pain to be all over!

He's right. I don't want to see people that suck anymore. But, I wonder if the problem is really that there just aren't that many people auditioning who can sing very well.

Amen, Chris!

He's not hating on Idol, btw. He's saying they're starting to go in the wrong direction. If you've ever read anything he's said before, you'd know that Chris is and always has been extremely grateful to the show and his experiences on it.

He's just pointing out that they're focusing on the wrong things lately, and it's going to start costing them. I'm a HUGE fan of Idol and of Chris, but even I've become bored with it lately.

I think all shows, especially reality shows, have a certain lifespan and I think "American Idol" is on its last leg. It just seems like the "same ol', same ol" and it gets tiring after awhile.

jaclynjm 08:03:00 AM Jan 18 2008

I totally agree. I love music and someone with great talent who works realy hard and prays for that big break. It is just a repeat from years past and not that funny any more. I think they forgot what the show really is all about. Too bad.

SOUR GRAPES CHRIS.....YOU OWE YOUR NEW FOUND WEALTH TO IDOL. THE SHOW STILL ROCKS !!!!!

katrinakat60 10:20:00 PM Jan 17 2008

This year does seem worse, and I think it's because they're responding to the critisime from last year about Simon being a big, bad meanie. There is not as much commentary, just a bunch of incredulous looks from the judges. If someone is willing to go on national tv and act like a jackass, then why does everybody wig when Simon tells it like it is? If they're such pansies and get crushed by Simon's criticism, then by all means, they should not audition for Idol.

Lskooi 10:15:43 PM Jan 17 2008

That show sucked from day one. The careers of the past winners are all taking nose dives. Where will these so called stars be in 20 years? Nowhere.

dovesm 10:09:00 PM Jan 17 2008

Quit making fun of people.
