Billy Ray Cyrus Surprised by Miley's Pics

(June 17) - Miley Cyrus' fans weren't the only ones to be surprised by her revealing photo spread in the June issue of Vanity Fair.

"I didn't know they were going to strip her down and wrap her in a blanket," father Billy Ray Cyrus told Meredith Vieira on 'Today' where he appeared to promote his 'Nashville Star' reality series."I was surprised when I saw it ... but, hey, that's life. Stuff happens."

"I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed," Cyrus says of pictures that appear in the new issue of Vanity Fair.

Vanity Fair editors say "Miley's parents and/or minders were on the set all day. Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley. In fact, when Bruce Handy interviewed Miley, he asked her about the photo and she was very cheerful about it and thought it was perfectly fine."

Just last week, photos of Cyrus flashing her bra and pulling up her shirt while draped across the lap of a male furthered the speculation that the singer-actress sensation may be more PG-13 or R than G-rated.

"The pictures of me on the Internet were silly, inappropriate shots." adds Cyrus about last week's photo scandal. The leaked pics didn't make a dent. Her 'Best of Both Worlds' CD was ranked near the top of the charts last week.

Photos of Cyrus in provocative poses first leaked near the end of January to gossip sites like TopSocialite.com.

Poor Miley. Her dad not only rekindles the photo scandal, but he makes a poop metaphor in the process. What would Best Week Ever do if they were Miley?

Cyrus said he realized nothing could be done about the shoot. "My dad always told me the more you stomp in poop, the more it stinks. so I was just, 'OK, this happened. We got to deal with it.'"

Cyrus also defended the photo in which he poses with daughter lying across his lap clad jeans and a top that bares her midriff.

"I'm sorry, if I offended somebody. That's just a daddy who loves his daughter a whole lot," Cyrus told Vieira.

"Miley and I just got caught up in this adventure of this dream and what we do for a living, and, again, we both love acting, we love making music, and we love each other. I'm her Dad, she’s my daughter. If a daddy hasn't hugged his daughter recently, I recommend he does."

Cyrus also feels his daughter must stay strong through the controversies that come with being in the spotlight. "For every action there’s an opposite and equal reaction," he said about Miley working in show biz. "For every high, there’s a low. It's just the way life is. She has a dream. She loves what she does for a living, she just loves it."

He didn't know, ... seems there is a lot he doesn't know, and with her being a minor who approved the proofs before publication, who watches and disciplines her dating a 22 yr old, who monitors the trashy pictures she puts on the web site, come on it is poor parenting 101 but since she is his cash cow he is going to let her go right down the same road as the Spears...anything for publicity and the news media is to blame as well ... stop with all the free press and they would have noone to perform for....always $ that makes it okay, wonder if he will say he didn't know when she ends up preggers....parents are at fault with no discipline, no guidance, no values.

she is a kid wanting to act like she is 35 yrs old and she makes me sick! her parents are disgusting for letting her act like she is an adult. she needs to realize just because she is a so called star that she is just a child! her parents need to wake up and realize she is just a snotty nose kid. she needs to quit being so easy before she ends up pregnant. but what am i thinking if and when she ends up pregnant she has mommy and daddy to raise the child. this crap makes me wanna puke!

IT'S PROBABLY A PUBLICITY STUNT. OTHERWISE WHY HAVE A WORLD RENOWNED PHOTOGRAPHER DO THE SHOOT AND GRANDMOTHER, AGENT AND FAMILY MEMBERS PRESENT. MAKES NO SENSE WHEN SHE GETS HER PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN ALL THE TIME. NOW EVERYONE SEE THE PHOTO!

the wrost thing about the pics is the people talkig about it making it sound a lot worse then it really is every one is saying she's a bad role model for kids when did any one hear she wanted to be a role model she an actress not a hero of some sort so get over it she is 15 yrs old there are 12 yr olds doing alot worse

To be honest, the VF picture is nothing compared to what is done in European countries. The French are probably laughing hysterically at us American's raising hell over showing some BACK skin.
Seriously, if people are worried about Miley giving their kids/teens the wrong impression, then I suggest the parents not send their kids to the beach anymore - there are worst 15-year-olds out there wearing much less clothing in the public eye than what Miley artistically did.

ok having seem some of he photos and read some of the posts i need to add my 2 cents. as a parent of a couple of teens i have seen the stupid pics they post on line . yes she's a star and a role model but she still is a teen and most teens do not have the maturity to realize that yes posting pics on line will be harmful to them in the long run. she did it again oh maybe she will learn that she can't do that next time. and those pics in VF. Get over it ! move on people. do we really think any of these teen stars/singers will be around making music in 10 years or will we see them on i love the 2008's on vh1. nuff said
