Alec Baldwin 'Tired' of Acting, Scrutiny

(June 16) - Alec Baldwin says he has one talent: "I like charming people." So why does the "30 Rock" star have a reputation for being a hothead?

"Well, if you have four bad days in four straight years, then all four of them are depicted in the media, then yeah," Baldwin told the New York Post. "The other 360 days of the year, when you're just handing out lollipops and riding unicorns through cotton-candy forests and everything's so magical, they don't report that."

The actor is referring to the media backlash following the leaking of a voice mail he left for his 11-year-old daughter in early 2007. In the voice mail, he called her a "rude, thoughtless little pig," berating her for reportedly avoiding his phone calls.

Following the scandal, he appeared on "The View" and blasted the tabloid media for stirring up the controversy. "They make it their career to humiliate you and expose your secrets," he told then-host Rosie O'Donnell.

He now says he has a "great" relationship with Ireland, now 12, whose mom is actress Kim Basinger. The pair divorced in 2002 after nine years of marriage.

The actor is working on a book about "parental alienation" brought on by divorce litigation entitled "A Promise to Ourselves: Fatherhood, Divorce and Family Law."

Baldwin splits his time between LA, where Ireland lives with Basinger, and New York City, where "30 Rock" is filmed. Despite winning a Golden Globe for his his portrayal of an abrasive corporate executive on the show, he now thinks it "time for a change."

Baldwin at His Best

'30 Rock' - Jack Donaghy

'SNL' - Pete Schweddy

"I've done this now for a long time and I've enjoyed it, and the TV show is the greatest job I've ever had. But I just feel like there's other things I want to do. I'm tired. The business has changed.

"You turn around one day, like me -- I'm 50 and I don't want to work as much. I used to be all about work, and now I'm burnt out. I really don't like working."

A lifelong Democrat, Baldwin has long hinted that he may "one day" run for office. Despite his liberal leanings, he's unsure of Barack Obama's electability.

"This country needs a change, but I'm not sure if a man named Obama can get it. It's like marketing, like buying laundry soap, soda or corn chips. Will they buy McCain or Obama? What sounds right? A critical mass of Americans don't think beyond that. They do indeed choose presidents like they do laundry soap."

If Baldwin went into politics, would he come clean about the skeletons in his closet?

"I would, but only in the sense that I would say to people: 'Assume I've done everything. I want you to assume I've had sex with animals, that I've imbibed every kind of drink, that I've poured absinthe on my corn flakes during a period of time. I've done every debauched, filthy, insidious .. everything. Just assume that for the argument, and now -- next question.' "

Speaking of change, the actor is open to leaving bachelorhood if the chance arises.

"I've been single for seven years and as I get older, I think all I want is to be loved. The world becomes a place where you think, let everyone else have it. Let them all fight over jobs and money ... You want things in life that are lovely."

"You get someone like Russell Crowe, and you want to say to the camera 'He is a piece of' ... get ready to bleep this ... 'f------ s---.'"

--Comedian Joan Rivers apparently didn't quite know her stint on British talk show 'Loose Women' was live. She was booted off for her tirade.

Alec is an extremely gifted actor with plenty of range. He could lose a little weight and get rid of that puffy look. Steven, on the other hand, is a brainless boob.

The best roll he ever had was in "Team America, World Police"!

Yes, I know he didn't really do the part.

Yeah, I can see it: Baldwin would make a nice looking Pres. Assuming he's "done everything' he probably wouldn't get elected.

parents getting divorced, living with mom badmouthing dad, and let's not forget that kids always acted up when they left elementary school for high school so they invented junior high to ease the transition, now unfortunately they act up at 11 and 12 leaving elementary school the way they used to at 12 and 13. add an eleven year old puberty to that and a rude thoughtless pig moment is bound to crop up, but if it begins to become a trend, then it may have needed a good yell. he was on the phone not hitting her for goodness sake who knows what preceeded it or followed... didn't hear anything more from the media so my guess is he was a good dad overall or he'd be hounded like Brittany and there would be more to show. Hang in there Alec the world is just going thru a blame the parents why aren't they perfect phase. none of us are and if we really thought we should be perfect automatons ourkids would be cloned in factories and raised by the government. She now knows adults have bad moments
