You Said It
Lizbeth says:
"I like it when Gidget (Sally Field) wins awards. She's so passionate in a 'wanting to make a statement ... rambling ... yelling at the audience' sort of way."
Ben G. says:
Jenna [Fischer] as Pam is great on 'The Office,' but it's hardly an award winning role. [Jamie] Presley was much more deserving, and I'm glad she won."
Jimbo says:
"I was happy with Katherine Heigl's [win], she was the only reason I kept watching, though she got a little annoying toward the end of the season."
Bebop says:
"It's truly unbelievable that Rainn Wilson lost to Jeremy Piven. Without Rainn's delivery Dwight would just be strange and annoying, instead he makes him hilarious and pop culturally relevant."
Emmy Best and Worst Moments
Who's the 'Scrubs' Hata?: That opening musical number with Stewie and Brian from 'Family Guy' was better than we expected, and it saved us from watching Seacrest sing. One curiosity though: Who on the Emmy writing staff hates 'Scrubs' so much that they devoted an entire stanza to slamming the show?
More Emmys
"There are over 6,000 people here tonight. All of them talented, all of them looking incredible, all of them passed on hosting this year." Host Ryan Seacrest
Seacrest, Not Out: Dude, we get it, you're extremely hetero. Flirting shamelessly with Eva Longoria, Debra Messing, Ali Larter and Hayden Panettiere didn't reinforce that, it just kinda creeped us out.
"Congratulations on turning 18. My gift to you - seating you as far away as possible from Jeremy Piven." - Ryan Seacrest to 'Heroes' star Hayden Panettiere
Mommie Dearest? "My own mother told me I didn't have a shot in hell of winning," best supporting drama actress winner Katherine Heigl revealed with a laugh when accepting her statue.
"I do have a speech, because Katherine Heigl's mother said we would win." Mike Sweeney, 'Late Night With Conan OBrien' writer, accepting the Emmy for Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program.
Merry Go-Round? About that theater-in-the-round set-up ... we actually kinda dug it, as a one-time novelty thing. It felt more interactive, and kept the celebs on their toes, since they never knew when Seacrest might have the camera pan in on them. Then again, it also reminded us of the place we saw Weird Al Yankovic in Long Island last summer, so we'll leave the final judgment up to you as to whether or not that's a good thing.
"What a great show ... this part of the audience has seen tonight." Jon Stewart, discussing the theater-in-the-round stage.
Steppin' Out With Her Baby? Christina Aguilera still hasn't publicly confirmed she's preggers, as has been widely rumored, yet no one even made an attempt to get the scoop when she took the stage to sing 'Steppin' Out With My Baby' with Tony Bennett? How hard would it have been for Seacrest to follow that with, "So, Christina, are you?"
Yeah, She's a Nominee, but ... Who? Leslie Caron as a presenter? Seriously? Was that a nod to the oh-so-elusive 75-83 demographic the networks are always courting?
"You know, sometimes when we're rolling around the jungle and the mud, and we're hitting each other and stabbing each other and shooting each other and pouring on the blood and turning on the sprinklers, I wonder what it would be like to bake up a sheet of cookies on Wisteria Lane. And get one of their checks." Terry O'Quinn, with a 'Desperate Housewives' name check while accepting his Emmy for best supporting actor in a drama series.
Things That Should Have Been Whacked: Remember how you felt when the screen faded to black at the end of 'The Sopranos' series finale? That's how we felt when we sat through that whole 'Jersey Boys' musical number and our only pay-off was the entire 378-member cast of 'The Sopranos' taking the stage for a standing ovation.
"The way that show ended was the way sex ends for me. I turn the lights off and my wife sits up and says, 'What the hell happened? Was that it?'" Ray Romano on 'The Sopranos' series finale.
He's Mad as Heck ...: Have Andy Rooney and John Stossel already taken all the good rant topics? How else to explain why Lewis Black felt so passionate about the credits at the end of TV shows?
"Well, look for Lewis Black this fall, on Valium." Ryan Seacrest
Al Gore, Emmy Winner: About Gore's assertion that his Current TV network is about letting viewers have a hand at making the programming they watch ... isn't avoiding other people's home videos a big reason we watch TV?
"You couldn't get on Craig's List. Unless it was Senator Craig's list." Joely Fisher dissing her ''Til Death' co-star Brad Garrett.
Technical Difficulties: At a couple of points during the show -- including the moment when drama actress winner Sally Field seemed ready to let a "godd--m" fly during her hyper acceptance speech -- Fox had strange audio and video cutaways. How come that couldn't have happened during that 'Jersey Boys' number?
"I'm not faking this, I really don't know what the hell I'm doing." Presenter, and Emmy winner, Elaine Stritch, struggling with the TelePromTer
Who Says He Can't Laugh at Himself? Britney Spears was a no-show on her rumored appearance, but the other controversial figure from MTV's VMA event, Kanye West, did show up and spoof his own comments about not winning a VMA, losing a song lyrics contest to 'The Office's' Rainn Wilson.
"You know, this looked a lot less gay on the rack. Can I keep it?" Ryan Seacrest, making the jokes just that much easier when he showed up in a glittery King Henry costume that was described by Wayne Brady as "medieval pimp."
Thanks, All 24 of You: '30 Rock' star and writer Tina Fey, accepting the Emmy for best comedy series, thanked "the dozens and dozens of viewers" who support her cult-fave show.
Fughetaboudit: Fans will be debating that ambiguous final scene forever, and the show's stars were locked out of the major acting awards, but 'The Sopranos' ended its storied Emmy history with one final best drama statue. "Let's face it, if the world, and this nation, was run by gangsters ... ah, who knows, maybe it is," said series creator David Chase.
"I've been to thousands and thousands of concerts in my life, and I can tell you, these are the worst seats I have ever had." Drama Series winner James Spader giving his opinion on the theater- in-the-round stage.
