Who won 'Dancing With the Stars' 2009? In tonight's 'DWTS' finale, it was Donny Osmond, the "showbiz legend," who edged out R&B singer Mya in the viewers' votes. Since both of them had received the same total score in the judges' evaluations of their four dance routines in the two-night season-finale competition, Donny took home the season 9 Mirror Ball trophy.
Coming in third was Kelly Osbourne, the second-generation reality TV star, an apparent viewer favorite who had come in a distant third in the judges' votes.
In tonight's episode, each of the three finalists danced a favorite routine with their professional partner, and their routines were ranked from first to third.
Donny and his partner, Kym Johnson, came in first with their reprise of their "dark side" Argentine tango from week 5, earning 30 points. They had scored a total of 85 points for their three routines on Monday night, earning a 27 for a somewhat awkward cha-cha, a 28 for coming in second in the "megamix" dance-off with the other two couples, and a perfect 30 for a showbizzy freestyle routine.
Mya, who had accumulated the highest number of total judges' votes despite having "gimmick" issues with the head judge, Len Goodman, came in second for her reprise of her week 2 jive with Dmitry Chaplin. Her second-place score of 28 was added to a total of 87 from Monday for her perfect-30 paso doble, a first-place 30 in the megamix and a 27 for her freestyle to the 'Hairspray' showstopper 'You Can't Stop the Beat,' which the judges said never quite reached the excitement level one would expect in the finale.
Kelly, who received applause from the audience every time her name was mentioned tonight, and her partner, Louis van Amstel, came in third for their performance of their Viennese waltz from week 1 -- which, although it had earned the lowest original score of any routine that was revived tonight, had shown that she was a contender in the competition. Their 26 left them with only 102 points when it was added to the 26 for their flawed but charming Argentine tango, their third-place 26 in the megamix and a mere 24 for their freestyle dance, set to the ultimately ironic 'I Will Survive.' Discussing the routine with the show's co-host, Samantha Harris, Kelly said, "One of the lifts looked more like Louis pooped me out."The two-hour finale also featured the usual mishmash of comedy. For some reason, the talented model Joanna Krupa and her partner, Derek Hough, had to participate in a dance-off with the six left feet belonging to the former contestants Cloris Leachman, Jerry Springer and Steve Wozniak. The comedian Jeffrey Ross welcomed this season's first eliminee, George Hamilton's son Ashley, into the "Losers Club." After Jeffrey cut in on Ashley's dance routine, both of them ripped open their shirts.
And Miss Piggy appeared, first in an odd freeze-framed technical glitch. She later got a back rub from the bare-chested pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy and knocked Samantha Harris to the floor after Samantha accused her of "hogging the spotlight.''
On a more serious note, Whitney Houston performed two songs, including a winded-sounding rendition of her hit 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody.' The other 13 season 9 contestants returned to dance one more time with their pro partners. The former NFL star Michael Irvin won a dance-off with his gridiron rival Jerry Rice, a favorite from season 2. (The judges awarded both of the former Super Bowl champions Mirror Ball rings.) And Aaron Carter told us that doing the show had inspired him to devote his life to doing good and inspiring other young adults to do the same. Most of the evening's sentimentality, however, centered on Kelly Osbourne, the self-styled "wild child" who was treating the season as a kind of personal rehab. The judges praised her for making such progress, and after her elimination, the show's host, Tom Bergeron, told her that he had always looked forward most to seeing her dance.
In a final "confessional" segment, Kelly said to her partner, ''Thank you, Louis, for helping me become the person that I am today,'' then lowered her head and sobbed. He replied, "You have no idea how proud I am of you."

If Donny Osmond wins this show I will NEVER watch it again!! This is not a reality show but a popularity show. Kelly Osborne made a mistake and so DID Donny Osmond. He is an entertainer and has been for many many years. If he wins this show is NOTHING BUT A BIG JOKE!!!!!

Actually this is a show about capturing the audience and making them love you, which is why they added the viewer vote or making it count more after season 1 so the judges couldn't totally rule over things with their favorite. And they couldn't be more obvious who their favorite is, they should have MYA MYA MYA flashing over their heads.
Mya has had dance training her whole life, Donny trained for a year before the show. Kelly came in raw and grew, both as a dancer and a person. And that's what I vote for, who captures me and she did.
Carol Torri, I agree with you %100. Everyone keeps insisting that Mya had training, but not in ballroom dancing. She is by far the better dancer, but will not win....Hint Mel B. and Lailah Ali....You figure
What a joke I am done watching DWTS. It is a setup. You wonder why they never relase the vote counts.
Donnie had the right to win like anyone else. He got the most votes. Congratulations Donnie.
Hopefully Marie won't tease him as much as she used to.
I will never watch DWTS again. Donny Osmond is not a good dancer and he wins the trophy - I cannot believe it!!!! - he messed up time after time. Mya was the clear winner. Is this show about dancing or a popularity contest - what a joke!!
Donny what a joke!!! he does not deserve the title. I will never watch again.
quit crying you turd.donnie won fair, if you dont like it thats too dam bad. suck it up and stop whining about a freakin dance show. you retarded moron.
Agree 100%...ABC ratings, popularity...it is all too obvious. What a shame. This show always had some favoritism, but to this extreme? One thing is for sure...I will no longer be the loyal viewer, if at all, as I have been up to this time.
No, dear, it is an entertainment show, if you want ballroom dancing pure competition, watch it on PBS.
