BIOGRAPHY

Born: 7/21/1914

Born Giovanna Cecchi, Suso Cecchi D'Amico was the daughter of Italian screenwriter/novelist Emilio Cecchi. Cecchi started her professional career as a journalist and translator, turning to screenwriting after World War I. She made her mark in the Italian cinema's "neorealist" movement with her contributions to Cesare Zavattini's script for Vittorio De Sica's The Bicycle Thief (1947). Beginning with Bellisima (1951), she worked on virtually every one of the films directed by Luchino Visconti. She later collaborated with Antonioni, Monicelli, and Zeffirelli. On one isolated occasion, Suso Cecchi D'Amico turned actress, appearing onscreen in the Visconti-directed segment of Boccaccio '70 (1962). - Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
