Paul West

Paul West spent his entire career specializing in writing family comedies for radio and television. He started out penning material for one of the first daily serials, Sally of the Star at CBS Radio's Hollywood headquarters in 1935; while there, he also wrote for other shows, including scripts for W.C. Fields' Lux Theater of the Air. He later moved to San Francisco radio station KSFO, where he was promoted to head writer of The Billie Burke Show. By the late '40s, however, he was back in Hollywood and writing for such hit series as The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. In the early '50s, West, like many of the shows for which he wrote, moved to television. Among his subsequent writing assignments are The Donna Reed Show, Father Knows Best, and My Three Sons. West's last writing job was for the 1970s series The Waltons. - Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
