BIOGRAPHY

Jonas Brothers photo

With their skinny ties, shaggy hair, and frequent crowds of hysterical tween girls nipping at their heels, teen pop band the Jonas Brothers became a phenomenon in the mid-2000s, catapulted to fame through heavy Disney Channel exposure. Born and raised New Jersey, real-life brothers Nick, Joseph, and Kevin Jonas were raised by musical parents, who supported the kids in their own musical pursuits from the time they were little. Nick showed a particular talent for singing, even venturing onto Broadway at the age of seven, and by 13, he'd been signed by Columbia Records and was writing material for his solo album. He collaborated with his brothers on the project, and record execs were impressed with what they heard, so much so that they signed all three brothers to record as a band in 2005.The brothers were only 13, 16, and 17 when they released their debut album, It's About Time, in 2006, and soon began building up a core audience on Radio Disney. Disney then signed the brothers to its Hollywood Records label and began promoting them with appearances on various Disney Channel shows like Zoey 101 and Hannah Montana. The Jonases became a massive hit with the channel's young audiences, and before long, their 2007 self-titled sophomore album was just one element in a media presence that included sold-out stadium shows, rumored romances with tween stars like Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, movies like Camp Rock and Jonas Brothers 3-D, vocal proclamations of their own virginities, advocating chastity until marriage, and wearing purity rings on their left hands. - Cammila Albertson, All Movie Guide
