Sure, almost 100 million votes were cast by America to determine the winner of 'Idol' -- but exactly what percentage of those votes did Kris Allen and Adam Lambert get, respectively ? We definitely noticed Ryan Seacrest was hush-hush on the subject (last year, he told us that David Cook beat Archuleta by 12 million votes). So does that mean Kris ran away with it? We're thinking yes. On Twitter, 'Access Hollywood' Billy Bush claimed, "Source at the top says Votes were NOT close on idol. IE kris blew out adam lambert."
And MJ's Big Blog found a report from an Arkansas Fox affiliate that 38 million votes came from that state (and it's fair to assume most, if not all, of them were for Kris).
All season long, Adam was tabbed the "front-runner." But on our post-results SomethingPItchy podcast, we posed the question of whether the voting numbers truly backed that up. Maybe Adam's coronation was never that inevitable?
What do you think?

i believe that it was based on popularity and not tallent we all know that adam hands down was the best and kris was in the bottom three at least five times and i dont think that he should have one he destroyed the song kara wrote and i do belive that to this day danny should have been in the final two based on he was never in the bottom before and then it should have been based on talent not populartiy but either way i will buy adams and dannys albums not kris
I tried to vote for Adam Lambert but was never able to get through. I used every number provider and they were all busy, for the entire show and a couple of hours later. Is California able to vote or don't we get the show live?
Eli I'm on the east coast and I text my votes in... I know here you can't vote till the end of the show, and usually within 10 minutes I have a confirmation message telling me my votes were received.
Tuesday night I voted right after the show, like I always do and didn't get my confirmation till 12:30 the next afternoon. With 100 million, I'm not surprised the phone lines were jammed.
My daughter's comcast service would not let her vote last week or this weel. The call just would not connect.
Adam should have won !!
Kris may hold the title, but,
Adam is the TRUE "American Idol".
Adam's probably better off he didn't win seeing the company they HAVE to sign onto sucks at his type of music. He's better off in second. And Kris Allen was off key 1/4 of the time for the finale
Debbie - I agree Adam is a polished performer. But he is too polished, too experienced, and just too much a professional to fit my definition of an American Idol. Kris rose through the ranks and at the end, personified who I feel the producers envisioned when the "show was born".
Adam is amazing. He won every week. So how does Kris white-bread get the prize? There has to be a judges veto when the worst singer wins. This was a singing contest, not a contest for 13 yr olds to decide who is Mr. Dreamy. Sanjaya all over again.
i think in the end Adam was considered, perhaps (and without any degrading), a littel "dark" for a winner...Kris is middle of the road, marketable (I see a Dave Matthews sorta thing for him), a good looking chap, and so onb...Adam is the sh** but he may at the last second been pushed aside by 'right winger voting'...no doubt, he will make a MINT...everyone knows him now...Kris, if he had gotten second, may have become another second fiddle (Not a Clay type winner) American Idol pretty much got itself "two winners" with this turning out the way it did...interesting...
EXACTLY, Adam is the true American Idol Winner.
