'American Idol' 2009 Predictions

One's been a front-runner from the moment he auditioned.

The other was a dark horse who slowly surged to the head of the pack.

The eighth season of 'American Idol' comes to an end this week, and it's come down to a battle between Adam Lambert and Kris Allen. We asked bloggers to weigh in with their predictions of which singer will triumph in the end.

Kelly Picks Kris
This season seems like it might play out exactly like last year, with a strong front-runner (last year: David Archuleta; this year: Adam Lambert) being overtaken by the "dark horse" (last year: David Cook; this year: Kris Allen). Kris had more memorable performances than Adam -- among them, 'Falling Slowly,' 'Ain't No Sunshine' and 'Heartless' (the best of season 8) -- and I think he's a more viable star in today's music scene. So, as Randy would say, for me for 'Idol' -- Kris Allen FTW!

Rickey at Rickey.org Picks Adam
Adam Lambert will win 'American Idol.' Adam breaks the trend of what we would consider a traditional 'Idol' winner. He wears more guyliner than David Cook, wears blue nail polish and dyes his hair blue. He also likes to end his performances with an over the top falsetto. It might be a bit too radical for some -- but after 10 weeks, he has emerged as the most popular contestant by a mile and the mainstream media loves him.

Although Adam has been the favorite to win, I actually think that Kris will be the next American Idol, because all of Danny's votes will go to Kris. I love both of these singers, but Kris is so humble and quiet, and it would be great to see him as the next American Idol. No matter who wins, both Adam and Kris likely have big careers ahead of them.

MJ at MJ's Big Blog Picks Adam
Heading into the final with plenty of momentum and buzz, Adam Lambert will win American Idol. With his outsize performance style and mad vocal chops, Adam is going to kill on that big cheesycoronation song.

Angel at Television Without Pity Picks Kris
If it had been the predicted Lambert/Gokey showdown, I think Adam might have had a chance, but now that wild card Kris Allen is in the mix, I think that Kris has an excellent chance of going home with the title.

Brent at Idol Blog Live Picks Adam
Adam will win. Adam is new, unique and fresh. He is not my cup of tea but I don't hate him by any means. There is a ton of talent here and Adam will sell a ton of albums in the short term ... However I feel Adam is more limited in his demographic which could mean that the his trend will fade and fade quickly.

Kona at TV Squad Picks Kris
Adam has been the presumptive winner, almost since day one. The judges love him, he has a strong fanbase, and he attracts buzz (as is evidenced recent Entertainment Weekly cover). Kris, however, is notable for the fact that he has surprised everyone. Week after week he seems to pull a new trick out of his hat. While Adam started out with a flash, Kris just may be the one who ends with a bang and wins it all.

Adam LambertMatt at Reality TV Scoop Picks Adam
This is the 1985 Super Bowl between the Chicago Bears and the New England Patriots; the 1998 World Series between the New York Yankees against the San Diego Padres; the 1988 Heavyweight Title boxing match between Mike Tyson and Michael Spinks. We're not saying Lambert will knock Allen out cold in 91 seconds, but, well, it may seem that way.

RG at American Idol I'm the One That You Want Picks Kris
Though his win would be the biggest dark horse upset in 'American Idol' history, and not necessarily our preference, Kris Allen's season-long growth as an artist is the kind of victory America loves to see and support. Only a million votes separated Allen and Lambert in the Top 3 results, and with Gokey's fans most likely falling into Allen's camp, we predict that Kris Allen will be the next 'American Idol.'

M.L. House at TV Fanatic Picks Adam
Adam Lambert will win the eighth season of 'American Idol.' Heading into this week's performances, there's less mystery between Lambert and Kris Allen than there was over whether or not Ross and Rachel would get back together on the series finale of 'Friends.' But that's not a bad thing. In fact, this season of the show has been refreshing entirely due to Lambert's sheer domination.

HiltonHater at The Hollywood Gossip Picks Kris
It's not hard to imagine Lambert actually benefiting, in the same way as Daughtry, from falling just short of victory. But Kris Allen needs that crown ... Will this victory take place? It's highly unlikely. And we certainly won't shed any tears when Lambert is named the winner. He's a great performer and talent. But here's one vote for Kris Allen. It's our way of hoping season eight produces two champions.

JZ at Idol Pundits Picks Kris
Kris Allen will win, even though Tuesday night's final performance was a tie. The Pundits called it when there were still 8 contestants left, defying oddsmakers and the vast majority of other bloggers the whole way. Young kids watch this show in droves and girls ages 11 to 17 loooooove Kris. He's dreamy and the dude can sing. He's not going to blow anyone's mind. He's not going to push the boundaries of the pop genre. He's probably not even going sell any records. But the teenyboppers missed out on their Archuleta, and they won't let it happen again.

Andy at Reality Blurred Picks Nobody
Adam Lambert has been the apparent favorite, but don't count Kris Allen out yet. Kris hasn't come from behind so much as he's grown stronger and stronger, and he'll probably acquire a lot of Danny's fans because Danny's singing was closer to Kris' than Adam's. So going into the finale, it's quite literally a toss-up.
