The former front-runner from Milwaukee, Wisc., who moved viewers with the tragic story of his wife's death from a heart condition less than a year ago, was voted off the show in third place.
It was a surprising results, since many blogs and even the judges had forecast a final battle featuring Danny and Adam Lambert. Instead, it will be Kris Allen who faces Adam next week for season 8's crown.

Despite Simon Cowell's prediction that Adam would win, only one million votes separated the top two -- out of 88 million.
"None of us would have predicted this, guys," he said to the contestants after the results were revealed, "Kris, your second song in particular made you a contender ... Adam, we've always liked you. This could be, as we call, a big ding-dong coming up."
(Ding-dong? Whatever, Simon.)
In next week's final performance episode, Adam will sing first, since Kris won the post-show coin toss.

Kris is a sleeper - he could win it all - but remember Daughtry when he was eliminated? Of course you do! Adam has the superstar presence of an American Idol who can go the distance, doesn't he!
NO way should Chris have one Him and Adam there is no competition.
Danny was voted off because of Paula's song choice. The other two had songs people knew. I had never heard of that song by Terrence Trent Darby. I didn't even like the song. I listened to it by TTD and hated it then too. Danny has a
wonderful voice. The other two are good too. Sorry to see him go. I hope he makes a recording. I think he's that good.
Danny is a very talented singer. He should not have been voted off because of one song. Kris should not win Idol.

Paula's song choice for Danny was the right call. It was the only song I liked of Danny's two that night & it is only the 3rd time I liked him at all!! I have no idea how Danny made it as far as he did. It sure wasn't on talent. There were many people in the top 36, 13 and 10 that were better then him--Jamar, Alexa Grace, Matt & Allison just for starters. If there is a fix on AI, the fix was keeping Danny in the competition!!
Danny wasn't voted off for one song choice; he has a nice voice but so did many of the others who were voted off; he was kept in as long as he did because of his "story" and that gave him more name recognition from the beginning. He always seemed like a good ole guy who likes to get up and take the mike on Karaoke night and does a good job--He never seemed like a headliner.
I think that Danny is really good and I really like him and Im glad he made it this far. I have voted for through the whole compition but I am surprised that he made it this far and I will anmitt I dont think anyone there deserves to be there. there were better people there than Adam, Danny, and deffenetly better people than Kris. I think that Lil, Alison, and Matt should of been the ones performing on Tusday. But I do think that Adam is going to win next week even though he doesnt deserve to and I would like him a little more if he didnt rub off like a suck up jerk.
Gia is right on. Dingbat Paula sealed it by giving him a song that noone knows, and isn't particularly good to begin with. Simon admitted as much. Whether you like Adam's huge range (whether it is needed or not), Danny is unquestionably a better singer than Kris.
Danny will be fine. He will pull a "Daughtry"
